Heroes and The Cult of the Celebrity.

My popular culture topic is how people put everything going on in their life on Facebook.  Both of the theories go a long with my topic heroes and celebrities.  Heroes are a figure that people look up to.  Celebrities are people that other people look up to and watch the celebrities every move.  Children, teenagers, and adults look up to both of these figures.  Either of these are not for just one certain age group.

I believe these theories describe my pop culture topic because Facebook is very popular just like a celebrity.  People follow many different celebrities on Facebook.  Celebrities have fan pages and they put different things on their page for their fans to follow them.  I believe some people look at celebrities as heroes because of different movies they have done or different things that they have be involved in.  There are even Facebook pages for different movies that are made and people follow that page just because a certain celebrity is in that movie.

The insight that I get from applying these theories to my pop culture topic is understanding why people follow celebrity fan pages.  People are in love with image.  So with having these celebrities on Facebook and being able to look at the celebrities pictures; people are in love with that.  I am sure there are people that sit on Facebook for many hours just looking at different celebrity’s pictures and they compare their selves with them.  It doesn't make that person a sick person.  It's life we all wish we were a little better and looking at the heroes or celebrities make people feel better about them selves at that moment.  It doesn't last long that's the major issue.
